Best of 2012 Images

2012 saw a change of Photography Editor mid year from Clair Burge from Ireland to Tim Miller, a New Zealander living in Australia.

There has been a strong group of High Calling bloggers who are photographers and we are slowly expanding to bring other photographers in. The selection of the following images for a "best of" article was fraught with subjective difficulties. I am not going to say much about them, other than why I chose the winning image, mainly because this is such a subjective process. In fact the winning photograph probably doesnt have the technical elements some of the others do, I chose it for other reasons.

Please let us know what you think in the comments below:

First of all here is a photo from the High Calling Photographers Group. I gave the group a selection of photos used since June to vote on and this one got the most votes.

There have been lots of other excellent images from the group as well and here are two more runner ups.

The next three photos are my choice from all the photos I have sourced from flickr and the web. This is a harder process than it sounds, as we need photos that are not subject to copyright, meet our image selection criteria, fit the rotating banner at the top of the page and are related to the content of the article.

This past 6 months has stretched me as a photographer as well, working with other photographers and specifically shooting to suit The High calling website.

Here is my favourite image used on the site from this time. I set up this shot specifically for an article about a man in a suit jumping on a trampoline with a child. While this isn't the best shot from the shoot it suited the article perfectly.

And finally the winner of Top Shot of 2012.

There are numerous reasons for this choice. First, the story behind the image - Jana's husband set the cookies up on the bench for her to find. Second, the emotive response to this image. Not sure about you, but I love it!  Finally as we celebrate Christmas, this serves as a reminder of the reason God sent his Son Jesus to us: like setting up cookies for us to find.
