52 Workday Prayers: Psalm 16 - Let God Be Your Consultant

Prayer / Produced by partner of TOW
Consult

I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the LORD.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Psalm 16:7-8

Prayer

Lord, these days it seems as if there are more consultants than ever before. There are consultants for branding and HR, for marketing and hiring, for operations and finance, for building and master planning, and so much more.

Surely, some consultants offer valuable wisdom, for which I thank you. But I am reminded today that you are the ultimate consultant, the one who gives me the best counsel. Your advice isn’t only for my personal life. Rather, you guide me in everything I do if I seek your wisdom and pay attention to you. You help me to work in a way that is just, ethical, and fruitful. You guide my decisions, speaking to my heart both day and night if I listen to you.

Even as I learn from consultants and advisors, may I attend most of all to you, to your truth found in Scripture, to your guidance conveyed through the Spirit, to your wisdom embodied in the community of your people. May I keep my eyes always on you, Lord.

If I stay close to you, you will guide me in the best ways to go. With you at my right hand, I will not be shaken. I will remain secure and steadfast, positioned for a life of productivity and purpose. Thank you for all you offer me, Lord. Amen.

Ponder Throughout the Day

God is available to you, the best consultant you’ll ever have.

For Further Reflection

Read all of Psalm 16, paying attention to what the Spirit of God is stirring up in your heart, especially in relationship to your work. Talk with God about what you are thinking and feeling.
