Justin's football skills were so-so . . . and the coach made him second-string kicker. In other words, Justin warmed the bench. But Justin could heat up practice. Day after day, he teed up and kicked the ball. Not far at first. But every day, a little farther.

Then came the unexpected. The first team kicker was down, and Justin went in. Now practice paid off. Justin kicked, and the ball sailed high between the uprights, over the goal post.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Jesus says the "faithful in a little are faithful in a lot." Our daily routines call us to be faithful in small ways. So that at a moment's notice, we're ready for the big game . . . in the high calling of our daily work.

"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much."

(Luke 16:10)
