Mason, Texas, is the home of the late Fred Gipson, author of Old Yeller. In fact, at the entrance to the library in Mason stands a statue of Old Yeller and the boy, Travis.
The bronze was sculpted by Garland Weeks. People come from everywhere to view the work and to relive a piece of their childhood. In an interview for a television show, Weeks said, “When I walk into my studio, I guess it’s like a priest walking into his chapel.” Do you think Garland Weeks knows something about dedicating his work to God?
