Love Cannot Be Measured

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Transcript

A woman named Deborah was teaching her young daughter to count. One memorable day, the little girl realized that numbers could express quantity. She said, “Mommy, I love you 10 times.” She frowned a moment and said, “No, Mommy, I love you 20 times.” Later, the little girl said, “Mommy, I love you 600 times.” Finally, the child smiled as if a light had switched on. She said: “Mommy, I love you more than numbers!”

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. At that moment, Deborah’s four-year-old understood instinctively what adults need to relearn: love cannot be quantified. But we can accept it, give it, and multiply it … in the high calling of our daily work.

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.
