Todd blew past Karen’s assistant and threw open her office door. He let loose a verbal firestorm. He’d heard talk, and now HE intended to talk!

Eventually, Todd ran out of steam. When he did, Karen said quietly, "If I've done something wrong to you, Todd, I'll make it right. Let’s figure this out." In seconds, Todd's color changed. You could feel reason return to the room. The two began to talk.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Proverbs tells us that "a gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger." When a harsh word hits us, our reflex is to hit back. Resist that impulse, and you may save the situation…in the high calling of our daily work.

A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
(Proverbs 15:1)
