The Roadblock

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Transcript

In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid to see if anyone would remove it. Many people came by and managed to squeeze around it.

But a certain peasant saw the trouble the boulder was causing everyone. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded in moving it aside. Before the peasant continued his journey, he noticed a purse lying where the boulder had been. The purse contained gold coins and a note from the king awarding the gold to anyone who removed the boulder from the roadway.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. That day the peasant learned the secret of every roadblock in life. Obstacles present us with both challenge and reward—in the high calling of our daily work.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
