Special Place

Transcript

My granddaughter, Katherine, had a private, special place somewhere in the family home—a secret spot where she was free to be alone with her thoughts or a favorite book. Sometimes when the family gathered to go out, Katherine was as good as lost. Her sister couldn’t trace her, and her parents had no idea where to look. Fortunately, Katherine always surfaced before her family grew too upset or frantic. But Katherine’s special spot remained her secret. She never gave away the little part of the world reserved for only her.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. The desire for a special place—that retreat—that spot where no one can intrude—is a need we never outgrow. It is where we find refuge and strength—in the high calling of our daily work.

"Am I only a God nearby," declares the LORD, "and not a God far away? Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?" declares the LORD. "Do not I fill heaven and earth?" declares the LORD.

(Jer. 23:23-24)
