Dangerous Place

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Transcript

At a Texas camp for kids with cancer, a chaplain spoke about the 23rd Psalm. Around him stood a circle of children, several bald, some bloated by chemotherapy.

"God said that he goes with us into dangerous places," the chaplain mused aloud. "I wonder . . . has anyone here ever been in a dangerous place?"

For a moment, everyone was silent. Then a boy with one arm raised his hand.

"I've been in a dangerous place! Washington, D.C.!"

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. A little child shall lead them. Fears are as individual as we are, and so is the courage we need to face them. The one constant is that God always goes with us—even through the valley of dangerous places—in the high calling of our daily work.

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

(Ps. 23:4)
