52 Workday Prayers: Psalm 11 - The Lord Loves Justice
For the LORD is righteous,
he loves justice;
the upright will see his face.
Dear Lord, you are indeed righteous, fully right, utterly right. In you there is no hint of wrong or error. Your goodness pervades everything you do. Indeed, your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your judgments are like the great deep (Ps 36:6). Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne (Ps 89:14).
You love justice, Lord. You love it when righteousness prevails in every relationship, every system, every nation. You love it when we act according to your eternal standards, when we do what is right, especially for those who are not able to secure justice for themselves.
Help me, I pray, to act with justice in my work. Even if I have little authority in my workplace, may I treat others fairly. And if you have entrusted me with significant authority over people, systems, facilities, finances, or strategy, may I lead with justice. Show me how I can model your justice in my workplace, so that you might love what I am doing.
O Lord, in every segment of my life, including my daily work, may I be truly upright so that I might see your face, and so that you might look upon me with delight. Amen.
Ponder Throughout the Day
The Lord loves justice. How can I do what the Lord loves today?
For Further Reflection
Read all of Psalm 11, paying attention to what the Spirit of God is stirring up in your heart, especially in relationship to your work. Talk with God about what you are thinking and feeling.
You might also reflect on the following passage from the Psalms:
You have a mighty arm;
strong is your hand, high your right hand.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
Happy are the people who know the festal shout,
who walk, O Lord, in the light of your countenance;
they exult in your name all day long,
and extol your righteousness. - Psalm 89:13-16
