Ministers in Our Daily Work

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Transcript

Do you remember Jesus' first miracle? A wedding party runs out of wine. Jesus tells the servants to fill several large jars with water, then serve some to the master of the banquet. And the water turns into wine.

In this story, who do you think are the ministers? Throughout the New Testament, the word diakonos is translated "minister." Here, the apostle John doesn't use that word to describe Jesus. Or the master of the banquet. He uses it to describe the servants who fetch the water.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. The servants are ministers because they do what Jesus asks. That response qualifies every Christian as a minister. When we obey God, he can work miracles—in the high calling of our daily work.

"If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all." (Mark 9:35)
