One Typo

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Uhhhh! The pain was nearly unbearable. A typo! One digit!

Harry’s mistake would cost his company tens of thousands of dollars. Coworkers had reviewed the report. He could try to blame others . . . but no. The fault was his.

What should Harry do? First, tell the right people. Harry emailed his boss . . . and then phoned her. He gave no excuses. He explained—and he gave the facts. He also suggested damage control.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. In a final email, Harry outlined for his boss how he’d safeguard against future mistakes. Was he fired? Not on your life. To err is human. To admit a mistake—even a bad one—and prevent repeats is professional, in the high calling of our daily work.

For if you forgive men when they sin against you,
your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Matthew 6:14
