Senator Hutchison

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Transcript

U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison graduated from law school at a time when top firms weren't hiring women. After months of fruitless job-hunting, a friend advised Kay to take her knowledge into a different field.

So Kay drove to a television station and asked for a job. The news director said they'd never had a female reporter, much less one with a law degree. He said, "Maybe it's time." As it turned out, the station was owned and run by a woman who liked the idea of hiring Houston's first woman reporter.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Senator Hutchison learned that what a person knows can be useful in many ways. Stay open to following your dreams down new uncharted paths in the high calling of our daily work.

"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

(Luke 11:9-10)
