Simple Valuable Words

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Transcript

Political advisor Mary Matalin believes in using “simple valuable words,” and she tells why. During the 1992 presidential campaign, after a public disruption, Mary complained to then President George Bush. “The treatment is unfair, sir. Why do you put up with it?”

The president’s answer was brief. He said, “Duty, honor, country.”

Mary’s husband is former White House advisor James Carville. When they were expecting their first child, Mary received from James’ grandmother another powerful insight in simple terms, “Once you have children, you'll never think of yourself first again. Ever.”

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Life’s most powerful lessons are often the simple ones—in the high calling of our daily work.

Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind."

(Prov. 8:1-4)
