The Splinter Hunter

Jason finally had enough. His officemate and frequent work partner would have to be confronted. “Your delays make us miss deadline after deadline,” Jason said. “And I’m sorry to have to tell you.”

The coworker pushed back from his keyboard and took a deep breath. “Jason,” he said, “I’m late because you rush through assignments. Your reports are so riddled with errors I have to do your work and mine. I’ve been reluctant to tell you.”

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Jesus talked about the splinter in others’ eyes and the log in our own. If you feel the need to point out flaws on the job, the wise place to start is with yourself...in the high calling of our daily work.

“How can you think of saying, ‘Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.”
Luke 6:42
