The Solid Rock

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me up out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. (Psalm 40:1–3)
Sometimes life’s troubles come at us from all sides, and we feel as if we are sinking in quicksand. No matter what we do, we can’t find solid footing. In fact, the more we struggle, the deeper we slip into the mire. The Good News is that we have a loving and powerful God who wants to be the rock under our feet. Problems may swirl around us, but we aren’t drowning.

Oh Lord, I place myself in your hands—help me to know I can stand on you. Amen.
