Creation Variety

I remember only one toy from my childhood: a kaleidoscope—a hollow tube with a peephole at one end and at the other, bits of colored glass between two glass panels, one clear, one opaque. Turning the tube caused different patterns, supposedly no two ever the same. And that one toy provided hours of entertainment.
God's creation similarly displays remarkable patterns of sameness and diversity. Nature's familiarity lends stability and predictability to our daily lives; yet within this sameness, delightful variety expresses new in the old, stable ways.
In late spring 2002, parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin received a surprise twenty-inch snowfall—billions and billions of individual flakes. We are told that no two flakes are alike. Collect a few snowflakes on a black piece of paper and hold creation's variety in your hand. The usual and the new! What a remarkable Creator to put it all together!
