Delegation Is Just Too Difficult

I’ve been a front-line worker, supervisor and senior manager. And I can pretty well adapt into each role. But the one thing I learned I don't do well is is delegate. Admittedly, I like things done a certain way and that leads to all kinds of issues.
There are a few psychological syndromes that might describe the way I hold onto things, but the truth is the matter is that I like control. And that makes it difficult, if not impossible to be a good delegator.
There are other reasons why we don’t delegate well. And Sue Miley, at Christian Business Crossroads, explores those reasons. She came up with six.
- Low volume of the task makes it inefficient to train others.
- Lack of breadth of skills because of few employees.
- You’re a control freak.
- You’re a perfectionist.
- You’re a procrastinator and don’t have the time to train.
- You don’t have a process in place to delegate out work.
No matter where you are in the delegation food chain, you’ll learn something from Sue’s great post, Solutions for the Delegation-Challenge Business Owner over at Christian Business Crossroads.
