Faith, Family, Career—in That Order
Audio / Produced by The High CallingTranscript
In a business dominated by men, Mary dominated the business. She was a single mom who needed flexibility and income, and sales gave her both. Mary played by the rules and set records.
Then Mary’s male assistant was promoted over her. The message: no woman rising too high in this company. Devastated, depressed, Mary left that firm and started her own. "Mary" was Mary Kay Ash, founder of a billion-dollar cosmetics empire built on respect and employee rewards. "Faith first" was her motto. "Family second. Career third."
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Mary Kay’s story reminds us that the very bricks in a dead-end wall can also pave the road out…in the high calling of our daily work.
In that day the Lord will end the bondage of his people. He will break the yoke of slavery and lift it from their shoulders. (Is. 10:27)
