God’s Mercy Once Again

"And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife."

Genesis 3:21

Earlier in Genesis 3 we have seen a glimmer of God's mercy in his calling out to the man as he hid. Now God's mercy flows into tangible help for the first couple as God clothes them. Previously they had tried to cover their nakedness with fig leaves, a rather pathetic, temporary effort. Even though God has judged the man and woman for their sin, he still cares for them, demonstrating this care by making suitable clothing for them.

How have you experienced God's mercy in your life? Where do you need his mercy today?

PRAYER: Gracious Father, how I praise you for your mercy. Time and again in my life you have given me, not what I deserve, but so much better. You have forgiven my sin. You have "clothed" me in the righteousness of your Son. You have used my mistakes, yes, even my sins, for good. Thank you, merciful God, for showing such amazing kindness to me. Amen.
