How Do I Find Meaning?

“We’re #1!” “Try harder!” “Be all you can be!” “Go for the gusto!” “Be the best!”

So many expectations, so much pressure—so easy to lose sight of who we are and what we are living for. We place our ladder against a wall and climb madly to reach the top, only to arrive and realize we climbed the wrong building.

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.” (Ephesians 1:11–12 The Message)

Scripture tells us that the search for excellence is found only through Jesus Christ. The world will constantly disappoint, but Jesus will give us meaning. From the beginning of time, God planned for us; then he created us. Jesus died for us; he loves us, forgives us, and gives us the grace to live for him and not for the world.

Questions for discussion:
  • Are there ways you are living for the world and not God?
  • Would you like to switch your ladder to God’s house?
