Living Letters

Do you think of yourself as a minister? Ordained or not, every Christian believer is a minister.

In second Corinthians, chapter 3, the Apostle Paul says a Christian is "like a letter written by Christ." The Gospel is written not just with pen and ink on paper or stone, but in a believer's heart by the Holy Spirit. God entrusts us with his message and empowers us to live it out in the world around us. And for most of us, that's the world of jobs and meetings and commutes and lunch breaks.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. When people read the letter that you are, what message do they receive? Are you a clear statement? A minister of God's love? That's the high calling of our daily work.

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Cor. 3:1-3
