Teacher Takes the “Dis” Out of Disability

Blog / Produced by The High Calling

Take one feisty young woman with a vision problem, add parents who encourage her to dream big, and what do you get? Diane Mackay, an educator with a huge heart for disabled students--and a lifelong dedication to making sure that they understand and embrace the real world. She is the founder and executive director of Adventurers Academy, which provides educational, vocational, and community experiences for youth and adults with special needs.

Next month, Mackay and her staff will bring a group to the Frio River for a week as part of the free camping ministry funded by our parent organization, the HEB Foundation. Yesterday, we were thrilled when Austin's Jim Swift's piece about Mackay and her unique school ran on the KXAN news.
