True Love

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Transcript

A beautiful Hollywood couple was on the Phil Donahue show. The dazzled audience thought they were the picture of true and lasting love.

But compare that to an elderly man whose once-beautiful wife lived the last five years of her life with cancer—bald and bloated. Her husband said, “I slept alone those years and spent hours holding her hand, and I loved her a hundred times more than I THOUGHT I did the day I married her.”

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. The couple on the Donahue show separated within a year. The older couple touched and enriched many lives. A true picture of love is usually framed in years and commitment. And commitment is crucial in the high calling of our daily work.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
