VIDEO: Bruce Herman, Artist

Video / Produced by The High Calling

Bruce's work is a conversation between faith and art, between the past and the present. He sees art as a bridge between eternal truth and contemporary experience, bringing the images of scripture to life for us. In this video from our friends at Laity Lodge, Bruce talks about a pair of paintings, labeled Sacra Conversazione ("Sacred Conversation") on display there last Spring.

Beautiful, right? I love the way the video shows the Frio river having its own conversation with Bruce's art, how the beauty of creation and the work of the artist participate in each other to create these sacred spaces.

I think our own work, even if we aren't painters, has the same potential. When we participate in acts of renewal, redemption, and restoration—in the work God is doing in this world—we enter into the Sacred Conversation ourselves. Our work is informed by God, and responds to the beauty of His creation. Thanks, Bruce, for reminding us of this.
