Moses led his people out of slavery but could not enter the Promised Land. Likewise, our leadership may call us to endure hardships as we work toward a goal that someone after us will finally achieve.

Go up to the top of Pisgah and look west and north and south and east. Look at the land with your own eyes, since you are not going to cross this Jordan. But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see." (Deut. 3:27–28)

Read again the second sentence in the passage above. A Christian’s path calls for both leadership and sacrifice. As we do our best, we encourage others to achieve theirs.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thess. 5:11)
