Two knights in full battle regalia rode in the woods late one evening. Each thought himself alone. By a strange turn of fate, they happened to intersect at a very dark bend in the road. Startled, each assumed the other was hostile and began to fight.
The battle grew increasingly violent until one exhausted knight finally thrust his spear through the heart of his adversary. Badly wounded himself, the victorious knight struggled over to his foe. He pulled back the face gear. In the pale moonlight, he saw the face of his own brother.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge, and this story teaches a hard truth. Uninformed fear is dangerous, leading to blind battles and unwanted consequences—in the high calling of our daily work.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
